A NOTE ABOUT AI BOT ATTENDANCE: Please note that we do not allow bot attendance on your behalf.

Almost everyone who books a one-on-one coaching session with me wants to talk about one thing: niching.

They’ve spent years avoiding it or getting help on it that wasn’t helpful at all.

They’ve spent $10,000 on a coach only to realize that, because their niche was fuzzy, the program was useless to them.

Here’s the premise of the day: You should have a page on your website (it might be your Home Page or it might be a separate ‘Ideal Client’ or ‘Are We A Fit?’ page) that leaves your ideal clients with no doubt that you specialize in working with people just like them and that makes sure the other people know this work is not tailored to them.

When you have this kind of a page and use it well, you may be staggered by how much easier the marketing and sales process becomes.

People reach out to you saying things like, “I was reading over your site, and then I found that page and I resonated with everything on that page.” And you don’t need to convince them that your work is relevant to them or that you’re a good idea.

A page like this builds so much trust.

Ah… But what to put on a page like this?

One of the hardest things to identify and articulate is who on Earth your ideal client is.

My definition: It’s your general sense of who you do want to work with and who you don’t want to work with.

Over the years, I’ve heard many people talk about this.

I’ve heard it called: Perfect Client, Client Avatar, Niche, Target Market. So many different ways of saying the same thing: who.  I’ve always preferred the words: Ideal Client.

In the video below, I’d like to make the case for why to spend all this time and money to get this right. It’s 19 minutes but you may find it illuminating or confirming.)

This day delves deep into the Art + Architecture of how to create such a page and what the critical piece of an Ideal Client are.

Art because this is only part science. There’s also plenty of intuition and creativity at play here.

Architecture because your ideal client has knowable elements to it. There are five levels of your ideal client and they’re not all equal. Crafting a description of your ideal client means you deeply understand and can articulate that structure. I’ve seen so many Ideal Client articulations fail because they give so much importance to the least important part of the structure.

When I say Architecture I mean these five levels.

They aren’t all equal. Almost everyone I work with gets this wrong.

You have to focus on the center and work outwards not vice versa.

Below you’ll find a twelve minute video excerpt from my workshop in Newcastle in 2023 that will give you a high level view of what we’ll be spending a whole day on together.

This Interactive Workshop Might Be A Perfect Fit For You If:

  • You’re a conscious service provider, entrepreneur (e.g. life coach, holistic practitioner, permaculture practitioner) with an existing business who has been in business for a minimum of a year.
  • You’re not 100% satisfied with the number and quality of the clients you’re getting.
  • You struggle to identify places to find more clients.
  • You’ve struggled for years with the niche thing and you can’t figure out where, exactly, you’re stuck.

This Interactive Workshop Might NOT Be A Good Fit For You If:

  • You sell a product that there’s a clear demand for and you’re happy to take any clients who want to buy it (e.g. you sell pottery and you have dozens of different kinds of clients or you’re a restaurant and you have a wide variety of clientele that’s hard to pin down).
  • You have multiple niches (different enough to be different businesses), love being a glorious generalist and are deeply resistant to the idea of niching at all.
  • You imagine that honing your Ideal Client is all you need for business success. While it’s foundational, there’s more to the picture. You’ll still need to have enough space in your life to focus on your business, to approach business ethically, to articulate your Point of View, craft a sturdy business model, connect with the right hubs and find a good way to share your work.

Why Does Having An Ideal Client Page Matter?

The main reason this matters is that it helps to filter out who comes to you.

For example: if you have a page on your website describing your ideal client (such as mine), or you weave it carefully onto your homepage these folks have done beautifully.

When you read these write ups you know if you fit into that group or not. You know if you would vibe with the business itself.

This saves an immense amount of time, stress and drama.

But, perhaps even more significantly, is that knowing who you’re looking for gives you so many ideas on where to find them and what to offer them.

Really nailing in on your ideal client opens the floodgates of creativity and income.

Until you’ve got this figured out, everything is a struggle.

Once you’ve got it figured out, everything gets really easy.

And here’s the best part: Once you’ve written this page it’s done. You don’t have to touch it for years and it’s there, silently doing work for you while you sleep drawing in your ideal clients and repelling people who were never going to be a fit in the first place.

Your "Ideal Client Workbook":

After the workshop, you won’t be left alone. You’ll get the recording of the day + I’ve created a downloadable workbook for you that you’re going to love.

It’s going to help you take the content from our daylong workshop even deeper from insights into actions, from ideas into implementation.

The daylong workshop will focus on the 30,000 foot view. You’ll do my hand-selected, best exercises for honing in on who you want to work with.

This workbook will take you deeper and help you refine the work you did on this day. It will ask you questions we won’t have time to get into during our day together and give you example after example of what this can look like in the real world.

NOTE: The workbook will be provided to you on the day of the workshop and not before as we’re still crafting it.

In This Day-Long Workshop You Will:

  • Come to understand the nine core criteria of an ideal client: Before writing anything down, we’re going to get you crystal clear on what you’re aiming at.
  • Be introduced to the idea of starting this process by identifying your Ideal Offer: This has been an absolute game-changer for many of my clients who have been stuck on this issue for years.
  • Go deep, deep, deep into the five levels of your ideal client: This is a structure that will help you harvest every ounce of clarity you currently have on who you are best suited to help.
  • Be shown the common mistakes people make when trying to focus in on who they help. They are predictable and entirely avoidable when you know what you’re doing.
  • Get the basic framework of Your ‘Ideal Client’ page (and see a few examples): This is going to help this information come alive and land for you in a way that makes this work immediately practical.
  • Have time to begin reflecting on these core questions: This day is not just me talking. We’re designing it to give you time to get some initial writing done so that, by the end of the day, you’ve got the raw material you need to make a page you’re proud of.
  • + Get a few helpful bonus resources

Why Is It The Last Time?

If you’ve been following me over the last year, you’ll have noticed that we are on the precipice of making some changes to the Marketing For Hippies business model.

Changes that allow me to offer the same great things but also free up my time to create the next level of offerings.

This has been a regular offering of mine that will part of that new change and so this is the last time I will be offering it live.

I’ve also decided to go out with a bang and instead of doing a two hour webinar (you can find my previous webinar recordings on my site) I’m going to doing a deep dive, day-long workshop on the topic. I’ve added some great stuff and hands-on learning and my plan is to turn this into a course that you can do at your own pace.

When I first began, I didn’t even know niching was a thing.

Then I learned it was a thing but didn’t understand it.

Then I began to understand pieces of it. I came up with new insights and distinctions. I found helpful exercises and useful questions to ask people that helped them to quickly figure out their niche (or at least get much closer).

I was gathering up individual flowers of insight.

And this workshop is me gathering all of the wildflowers on my experience into a bouquet and offering them to you.

After 24 years in the trade, my understanding on this question of Ideal Client has finally settled and I will be getting this content professionally recorded at Sunset Labs in Victoria to turn into a DIY course in my Membership (and possibly a product to sell on my website).

Instead of doing this workshop live every year, I’ll be putting my focus in other areas. The same is happening with many of my courses. I’m getting them recorded and making them available on demand rather than in live sessions once a year.

Why Should You Trust Me On This?

Who am I to have anything to say about this?

Well, since 2003, niche and ideal client have been core areas of my focus.

I’ve worked with hundreds of clients, one on one, on this exact topic and thousands in workshops.

What you’ll hear in this workshop is not the same thing you’re going to hear in most of the niching workshops out there. A lot of it comes from trial and error and my own insights from working with this in the field as I struggled to help clients ‘get it’ over the years.

Now, when people book a $200USD/hour coaching session with me, this is the thing they want my opinion on.

I’ve written three robust eBooks on the topic.

I’ve recorded three, hour-long webinars on the topic.

I’ve lead countless workshops on this topic.

This is one of the strongest areas of my expertise.

This is an area in which I feel extremely confident.

This is an area where I see most business and marketing coaches struggle to help their own clients.

What My Colleagues Have To Say

And this is also an area where I am deeply trusted by my colleagues (some of whom you might know).

“Tad is both a force and a kind heart—like a compass that also gives you a hug. He’s been helping lost business owners sort out their messaging, declare a niche that actually fits, and attract the right clients without selling their soul (or sounding like a used car salesman).” – Jason Stein, L.Ac. wellnessrenegades.com

“Tad is a thoughtful, engaging, entertaining facilitator who is brilliant at helping people figure out who their people are. I like him and his workshops so much.” – Carrie Klassen, carrieklassen.com

“Tad and I have been friends and collaborators for over 15 years. Whenever I need clarity on marketing—especially around niching—he’s the first person I call. Tad has a gift for cutting through the noise and helping businesses define exactly who they serve and why it matters.” – Bradley T. Morris Founder of Majik Media, Majik Kids & Play Chi Ball

“Among the hardest questions I get from soulpreneurs — ‘is this offer clear enough?’ ‘will it sell?’ ‘who is the ideal client for this offer?’ — and the most experienced and ethical coach I know to skillfully answer these questions is Tad Hargrave.” – George Kao, GeorgeKao.com

“Tad’s work plays a crucial role in helping coaches, creatives, and wellness professionals truly understand what a niche truly is. So often, people assume a niche is just a specific type of person and focus on defining ‘who’ they serve—while overlooking the clarity of the result they offer. Tad’s teachings untangle this confusion, helping people craft messaging that resonates and captures the attention of the right people.” – Danielle Gardner, Author of Quiet Marketing

“Tad has an uncanny ability to help people see the through-line in his clients’ work—the essence of what they do and who they do it for. His approach to niching isn’t about squeezing yourself into a box but about uncovering the clarity that was there all along. Time and again, I’ve seen him help folks find their ideal clients in a way that feels natural, ethical, and deeply aligned. If I have a question about marketing, he’s my first step. I highly recommend his work and community to anyone who’s keen to step up their marketing game.” Javan K. Bernakevitch, Life and Land Designer, RegenerativeLiving.online AllPointsDesign.ca

“Tad is a master at guiding coaches and entrepreneurs to discover their perfect niche and truly understand their ideal clients. His ability to cut through confusion and pinpoint the essence of who you’re meant to serve is unparalleled. If you’re struggling to define your audience, or you’re just seeking more clarity, Tad is the person to turn to – he’s been the go-to guy for this for years!” – Patrick Dominguez, Founder, Inner Coach

“When my copywriting clients come to me still a little fuzzy on who they want to work with, or exactly how they help them, I send them to Tad’s content–both on Youtube and the Marketing for Hippies Membership. But an ideal client workshop where all of that info is in one place? It’s too perfect! Tad’s experience is unparalleled with working with out-of-the-box-thinking entrepreneurs who are often multipassionate and resistant to limiting who and how they serve. He has a way of making niching make sense and feel natural. I’m always thankful when a client comes to me to write their copy *after* finding clarity with Tad.” – Lauren Van Mullem, Copywriter

“I’ve known Tad for almost twenty years now, and I gotta say – in all that time working with countless leaders in the field, he’s one of the most genuinely generous people I’ve met. What really sets Tad apart is how deeply aligned his work is. His whole ‘Marketing for Hippies’ thing isn’t just clever branding – it’s what he does. Over the years I’ve watched with great admiration as he’s built his business in this organic, community-focused way that’s totally aligned with his values. When people find Tad, there’s this huge sigh of relief – like they’ve finally found their marketing home after being homeless for years. It’s often an ‘answer to prayers’ moment for people who thought they’d have to choose between marketing effectively and sleeping well at night. He’s created a space where people can actually breathe and be themselves in their business instead of trying to cram themselves into some prescribed box that some guru told them they needed to fit into. I’ve watched him work with clients who were ready to give up because they couldn’t stomach traditional marketing tactics, and he completely turned things around for them. He goes deep. He gets thoughtful. And when it comes down to the actual nuts and bolts of marketing and building a business? He cuts through the noise and gets right to what matters and what works.” – Jeffrey Van Dyk

“There are few humans I am prouder to call a peer and colleague than Tad Hargrave. In the realms of marketing, niching and business, he is a lighthouse – guiding the way to doing better for us all. I regularly send clients to Tad knowing they are in phenomenally capable and compassionate hands. Smart as a whip and funny as hell, Tad’s at the top of his game – and will stand with you until you reach yours.” – Lara Eastburn, FB/IG Ads Expert for Smaller business

“Tad’s work is where I recommend any business owner goes for the most in-depth and meaningful work on understanding and articulating your niche and figuring out your “right-fit” aka ideal clients. I haven’t seen any other business coach give this topic quite the same care and attention that he does. If you want to really go deep into your ideal client, my recommendation would always be Tad.” ~ Caroline Leon, Business Coach for Conscious Changemakers

“Tad brings wisdom, depth and nuance to the gnarly topic of niche and ideal client. I regularly refer back to his models and metaphors when explaining concepts to clients (because they’re that good).” – Gemma Gilbert

“I cannot express enough how grateful we are for the incredible guidance we’ve received over many many years from Tad. As a specialist in helping entrepreneurs define their target clients and carve out their niche, he has had an immeasurable impact on our business. With his expert advice, we gained laser focus in our approach and developed a clear strategy for reaching the right audience.” – Michelle Avis, Verge Permaculture, Co-Founder

“Tad Hargrave has amazing insight into any and everything niche and ideal client related. His ability to hone in and help clients identify their passion and therefore their people is stunning. Even more so, his skills in helping articulate that niche and ideal client is pure genius. I warmly recommend that you work with Tad – he’s the real deal and any opportunity to avail of his wisdom is priceless.” – Lisa Bloom, Story Coach

“Tad Hargrave has a rare gift for helping people find the sweet spot where their work meets the world’s needs. His approach to niche and ideal client work is grounded, compassionate and refreshingly real. He doesn’t push formulas—he listens deeply, asks wise questions and helps you unearth the clarity that’s already within you. I’ve known Tad for years, interviewed him for my Blowing Up podcast and continue to be inspired by how generously he shares his unique brilliance. If you have the chance to learn from him, take it!” — Linda Claire Puig, Founder

If you have any questions, drop me a line.

Stay human,

Tad

"worth far more than the investment"

“Your Ideal Client Teleseminar was worth far more than the investment. Tad totally overdelivers by walking you through his unique process. He helps you deep dive into the details of your ideal client so that you identify not only who you’d love to work with, but also who is clearly not a fit for your work. Game changer for sure. I gained more clarity in this past hour than I have in the past 3 months of spinning my wheels. I can’t wait to add my results to my website.”

 Amy Bellis, Amybellis.com

"I got clarity about my ideal client"

“Love the way I got clarity about my ideal client on Tad’s Ideal Client Tele seminar. I can’t wait to go and rewrite the page on my website. We work so hard with our clients, so it’s important we make the effort to describe clearly who our ideal clients are, so they can recognise themselves in the description and be drawn to work with us.”

Jenny Pim

"It will be the best investment you will ever make in your business."

“Over the last couple of years I’ve constantly been told that I must have a niche. Yet no-one could fully explain how to work it out let alone how to express it effectively. Then a friend recommended this teleseminar. I am closer than I have ever been to understanding this mysterious world of ‘niching’! The format was practical, informative, fun, challenging and supportive. I could go into a long list of superlatives at this point (I’m not sure I would find enough of them) so let me simply say, if you are having any difficulty with working out your niche then sign up for this. It will be the best investment you will ever make in your business. Thank you so much Tad Hargrave for guiding me through this.”

Lou Laggan, loulaggancoaching.co.uk

"The workshop is worth 10 times what it costs"

“Not your “typical ideal client” exercise that every business coach tells you to do but leaves you confused and frustrated. The process that Tad Hargrave walks you trough is simple ( not easy ) practical and multi-layered . I loves that we had a space to work on our materials in real time and simultaneously receiving feedback from both Tad and the other participants. At the end of the Ideal client Teleseminar my “who I work with “ was so much clearer. The workshop is worth 10 times what it costs.”

Vanessa Mentor, sheisunrestrained.com

"an absolute bargain."

“I can honestly say that Tad’s approach and offerings have been a total game changer for me. I have 100% confidence that I am offering something important and valuable to the world, but was seriously considering throwing in the towel because I hated marketing so much. Tad’s books, teleseminars and puttering sessions have resonated so deeply that I am actually excited to work on my marketing plan now. His Ideal Client Teleseminar was empowering, practical and immediately useful. I also appreciate the way he encouraged community among participants by having us share our answers on Facebook. At this price, it is an absolute bargain. Thank you Tad!”

Christina Malecka, Unplug Reconnect Restore: Digital Mindfulness Retreats, digitalmindfulnessretreats.com

"I highly recommend it."

“The “Your Ideal Client Teleseminar” helped me cast a net to catch more clarity around who I really want to work with. I have a lot more to do to attend to narrowing my work’s focus, but this helped me find more clear direction. I highly recommend it. It was a great price and I found extra value in participants’ feedback on my sharing and witnessing the process for other participants.”
