The Calls:

Live, Q&A Calls: There are six live, Q&A calls with Tad on Tuesdays: July 16th & 30th, August 13th & 27th, September 10th & 24th (also see the semester’s flow chart below).

There are two options for each of these calls, to allow for people in different timezones to attend. The options are: 10am-12pm + 6pm-8pm PACIFIC (convert to your local time here)

Recordings: there will be replay recordings of these calls made available to participants for review.

NOTE: You should expect to spend 2-3 hours preparing for the first call, and 2-3 hours per week on homework and prep for the next week.

Study Halls: There are Study Halls throughout the program on Thursdays where you can log in and work alongside other participants on the tasks at hand. July 25th, August 8th & 22nd, September 5th & 19th (also see the semester’s flow chart below). The Study Halls are: 2-3am + 10-11am PACIFIC (convert to your local time here).

PODS: Tad will also be encouraging you to find/create self-directed study PODS and will talk about how this works in the orientation call.

All this is designed to make sure you have the time to get the work done along with the support you need – no more lonely-preneures!

The final call of the program is a Deep Dive that digs into everything you’ve done together and wraps up the semester, and it is three hours in duration.

Greetings,

The summer semester of the Marketing for Hippies membership starts July 16th with a three-month focus on “Business Model”.

Business Model is the structure of your business. It’s the architecture. It’s how money enters into your business and lingers a while.

Business Model includes your free stuff, your cheap stuff, the mid-priced and the high priced.

A provocative and important thought: Your profitability has very little to do with marketing. It has everything to do with business model.

Let’s say you sell cans of soup.

They cost you 50 cents to make but you sell them for 45 cents.

You see the problem.

You don’t have a marketing problem.

You have a business model problem.

Your business model must meet four central criteria: It must be simple, satisfying and sustainable for you and safe for them (the potential client).

This Could Be A Perfect Fit If You:

  • You’re curious about what Business Models are and how to use them in your business. You are clear yours is not working as well as it could be for you.
  • You are building a business not engaging in a hobby. You plan to be doing the work you’re doing for at least another decade and you want to make it something you’re proud of.
  • Are willing to focus on a particular niche for three months and hone your offerings and business structure around it. Business model doesn’t work without at least some kind of niche.
  • People know about you and what you offer but they aren’t buying.
  • You have a lot of people showing up but you’re still not profitable.
  • You are burning out doing what you love (oh no!) and realize that you can’t keep it going the way it is.
  • Your business is starting to feel way too complicated and overwhelming.
  • Are ready and willing to spend at least three to five hours at week for three months working on your Business Model
  • You are friendly, coachable and willing to receive candid feedback.
  • Have at least one piece of strong hippie street cred 😉
  • Bonus Points If you’ve got a friend who would be willing to be your Business Model Challenge “buddy” to meet with you in between our calls to go over your homework and give you candid feedback. Not needed but it would be a big help for you.

Semester Outline

Note: for most of these weeks, there will be one or two hours of grounding materials to dig into – usually in the form of a webinar to watch. It’s not required but you will get profoundly more from the calls if you watch them. I will be leading the calls as if you had watched them.

  • WEEK ONE: Orientation & Evaluating Your Business Model – In this week, you’ll be looking at your current business model to see what’s working in it and what isn’t.
  • WEEK TWO: Pods & Study Hall – Use this time to meet with your self-directed pods and/or attend the Thursday Study Hall.
  • WEEK THREE: Designing Your New Business Model – In this session, you’ll begin to map out your business model as you want it to be.
  • WEEK FOUR: Pods & Study Hall – Use this time to meet with your self-directed pods and/or attend the Thursday Study Hall.
  • WEEK FIVE: Crafting Compelling Offers – In this session, you’ll be learning the secrets to creating offers that your people will be excited to buy.
  • WEEK SIX: Pods & Study Hall – Use this time to meet with your self-directed pods and/or attend the Thursday Study Hall.
  • WEEK SEVEN: Building Solid Internal Systems – In this session, you’ll be learning about how to construct the inner architecture, checklists and procedures of your business so that it works for you and not against you.
  • WEEK EIGHT: Pods & Study Hall – Use this time to meet with your self-directed pods and/or attend the Thursday Study Hall.
  • WEEK NINE: Making Your Business Safe To Approach – In this session, you’ll learn about how to dramatically increase the response you get to offers in the short and long-term by identifying the risks that your people see to hiring someone like you and addressing the risks they perceive.
  • WEEK TEN: Pods & Study Hall – Use this time to meet with your self-directed pods and/or attend the Thursday Study Hall.
  • WEEK ELEVEN: Deep Dive & Wrap Up – In this week, we’ll be taking a string and tying up all the wildflowers of creativity from this semester into a bouquet you can offer up to your followers over and over again. Please note that this call will be three hours instead of the usual two hours.

This Is Likely Not A Fit For You If You:

If you’re wanting real, personal, in-depth handholding you might want to check out a Puttering Session

This program is not one-on-one coaching.

You may get some direct feedback from me but likely not much. It’s not that kind of program.

It’s a three-month, introduction into the foundations of Business Models, what the elements are, how it works and helping you understand how it can work in your situation.

This is a three-month chance for you to set aside time to really hone in and focus on this work (that you may have been intending to do for a long time) and finally do it.

Three Compelling Reasons To Sign Up:

Reason #1: Incredibly affordable.

When I ran this workshop for the public, it was only $300 USD for 30-days, which is incredibly affordable. I now require participants to join my Membership for at least the duration of the Program they’re joining. This means that this program is even MORE affordable, because my Membership is $300 USD for three months not $300 USD for 30-days.

Reason #2: The whole library of my content neatly organized.

All of my videos, articles, eBooks, webinars, recordings, and courses are in the Membership (all included for the price of admission).

You’ll also get access to other videos, pulled out from our weekly membership coaching calls there too that you’ll never find on YouTube.

You’ll find my content organized by industry so you can find what’s most relevant to you.

Reason #3: A distraction free and highly supportive infrastructure.

We use Mighty Networks as our platform and so the only notifications you’ll get (which you can control as you like) will be related to growing your business not sweet cat memes from your high school friend. You’ll have a platform where you can ask questions of other participants and members and get needed help

I hope you’ll consider joining me for this semester.

Stay human,

Tad

PS Make sure you confirm time zones for the dates of the calls.

PPS If, at any point, for any reason, you want to drop out of the Membership, you’re welcome to go with no hassles or hard feelings. There’s no minimum time commitment.

FAQ:

Q: Is joining The Business Model Semester the same as joining The Membership?

A: Basically, yes. And many in the membership won’t be joining in on
the Semester calls. But The Business Model Semester happens within The Membership. So you get the Business Model Semester+ The Membership for the same price.

Q: What is the cancellation policy? Should I decide not to go beyond 3 months, what notice must I provide to you?

A: Zero notice. You pay on a month to month basis. Come and go as you wish.

Q: I’m considering joining this program but unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to attend 3 out of 6 live calls. Is it still worth signing up?

Well, I don’t know. I’d have to leave that to you. The calls are designed to be hands on and doing things. We use zoom rooms often and so you couldn’t have those conversations on the calls you miss. You would get the recordings soon after the calls. I suppose it depends on how you work. There are, of course, also the Friday calls with me (open group coaching – from 11:30am – 1pm PST) where you can get questions answered. You could have some of the conversations with your Pod of 4-5 others (if you decide to join one).

Testimonials:

“Tad is one of the most gifted and talented trainers, leaders, lecturers and workshop leaders I have ever encountered.”

“Tad Hargrave is a remarkable young man with unlimited talents. He makes the most of any opportunity to interact with young people by using humor, insight, wisdom, perception and powerful distinctions to transform the way they see themselves, their relationship with others and their world.

Tad is an activist who engenders activism. He is a leader who inspires leadership. He is a humorist who creates joy and laughter. And he is accomplished and experienced well beyond his years.

In every interaction with Tad, I come away clearer about myself and the opportunity I have to contribute to the making of a better world.”

Lynne Twist – President, The Turning Tide Coalition, Author, “The Soul Of Money”, soulofmoney.org

“Tad is one of the most gifted and talented trainers, leaders, lecturers and workshop leaders I have ever encountered.”

“1. I am a registered nurse turned director of marketing, Tad was my coach in the process and taught me how to think like a socially conscious marketer. Rather than telling me what to do, he taught me how to think and directed me towards the resources I needed to do it myself. In doing so, he allowed me to feel confident, competent and successful.

2. In less than 3 months Tad supported me in heading several profitable and successful marketing campaigns including a print mail campaign, a radio campaign and the evolution of an existing referral system.

3. Working with Tad is easy and enjoyable. He is warm, charismatic, funny, generous and incredibly intelligent. And he looks good in a skirt…kilt.

4. Everything that I have learned through Tad has since been reinforced by every other piece of marketing literature I have read. Tad knows the world of marketing and how to use it for the forces of good.”

Amber Dawn Hunter

“Down-to-earth, clear, and honest”

“The honesty and integrity in which Tad approaches marketing is inspiring. In the past I have been afraid of ‘selling myself’ or coming across as too pushy. The style of marketing that Tad presented is down-to-earth, clear, and honest. I highly recommend his seminar.”

Alison Irwin, yoga instructor and massage therapist, Edmonton

“Now, I don’t think of marketing as selling. I see it as sharing.”

“My first impression was that Tad and his business had a sense of genuineness and integrity.  Though I haven’t signed up for a workshop yet, I’m getting a lot from Tad’s posts and videos.  My primary thought when I saw Tad’s work was how refreshing it is to hear him speak in an authentic way directly to his community.  The videos are real, there’s no need for hype or glitz.

One of the messages that I found most useful is to share your content and if people want more, they’ll find you.  After seeing Tad’s work, I started a new series on YouTube and my site called “Coaching Notes.”  I took casual videos of me outside speaking about some idea that came up during one of my coaching sessions.  I’ve received very positive feedback!  Now, I don’t think of marketing as selling.  I see it as sharing.”
